Periodically Pouteria organises volunteers to come together to collect rubbish from the Te Matuku Bay foreshore and the roadsides along Orapiu Road around the Te Matuku environs. It's a few hours of satisfying work — and always a bit of an eye-opener.
Still on the to-do list
Among the more unusual finds: someone, at some point, illegally erected a shed in the Stewardship Reserve on the west side of Orapiu Road. Dismantling it is on our list — and it's the kind of job that benefits from a team. If you've got a few hours and don't mind getting your hands dirty, we'd love your help.
All cleanups are organised on an ad hoc basis as opportunities arise. The work is straightforward, social, and makes a real and visible difference to the reserve and the wider environs.
